How to Delete Your UPS Account

If you no longer need your UPS (United Parcel Service) account, deleting it is a straightforward process. UPS allows users to delete accounts online in just a few minutes. This article explains the steps involved in removing your UPS profile and its data from their system.

Why Delete Your UPS Account

There are several reasons you may want to delete your UPS account:

  • You no longer ship packages through UPS and don’t need the account
  • You want to create a new account for better rates or options
  • You have concerns about data privacy and want your info removed
  • You’re closing an old business account that is no longer needed

Whatever the reason, UPS lets users easily manage and delete their own accounts.

Before Deleting: Download Your Data

Before removing your UPS profile altogether you may want to download any data associated with it. This depends on if you want records of your shipping history or want copies of labels, tracking info, etc.

To download data from your UPS account:
  1. Go to www.ups.com and log into your account
  2. Under “Support,” select “Contact Support”
  3. Choose “Send a Message
  4. Request an account data export through the message portal

It can take 1-3 days to compile account records based on account activity level. So request this before deleting your profile.

Data Removal Process After Deletion

Once you delete your account, UPS will initiate a data removal process. According to their privacy policy, it can take up to 60 days to fully delete all stored info from their servers and backups after an account is closed.

In some cases, UPS may legally need to retain certain transaction records for audit purposes after you delete your profile. But all personal information, addresses, and similar identifying data should get purged within 60 days per their deletion policy. You can contact their compliance team for specifics on data they retain under certain regulations.

Important Notes About UPS Account Closure

  • Saved shipping addresses connected to the account will be lost. So be sure to download this data beforehand if needed.
  • Unused UPS labels and credits associated with the account will be forfeited after closure.
  • Your account email address or phone number will be disassociated and available for reuse on a new account.
  • To ship again with UPS in the future, you’ll have to create a brand new account with a different email address.

In most cases, removing your UPS account is quick and simple once initiated through their online portal. Be sure any data is backed up before deletion and that you understand their data retention policies around legally required records. With those considerations in mind, you can permanently delete your UPS profile when no longer needed.
